چکیده
The anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by the occurrence of arterial and venous thrombosis and/or obstetric complications (miscarriage, fetal death in utero) associated with the presence of anti-phospholipid antibodies (1). The catastrophic anti-phospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is its most severe manifestation, and is characterized by the occurrence of thrombosis in multiple organs over a short period of time (2). CAPS is rare, affecting less than 1% of patients with APS. We here report two cases of patients admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU) for multi-organ failure related to CAPS, and who were treated successfully. Their management is discussed at the light of existing literature.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disease with the appearance of anti-phospholipid antibody (ACLA), Anti β2GPI and lupus anticoagulant (LAC) in serum. The antigen-antibody reaction on cell surface leads to thrombosis, miscarriage and inflammation. Clinical findings are diverse and include thrombosis in veins and arteries, pregnancy loss, thrombocytopenia, neurological and...

Anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) is a potentially life-threatening autoimmune condition characterized by the presence of anti-phospholipid antibodies (aPL) giving rise to increased hypercoagulability, which induces venous or arterial thrombotic events at whatever age and recurrent fetal loss in the fertile age. Antigens that are targeted by aPL include cardiolipin and beta2-glycoprotein I. Prim...
